FAQs for Home Owners
If you're a home owner looking to have a new pool built, or you're doing a pool renovation, we've answered some frequently asked questions that you might have.
I’ve been in pebbled pools which cut my children’s feet. Will this happen with your product?
Being made from 50% ultra smooth glass pebbles, our product greatly reduces the natural abrasiveness of traditional pebblecrete.
How much extra than normal pebble will it cost me?
Because we supply our product directly to pool builders and pool renovators, we don’t set the retail price to you, the home owner (we have a set trade price we sell our product to builders). It’s then up to the builder to add their markup. While our product can be a little more expensive than standard pebblecrete, the results are simply incomparable!
How can I get your pool finish product? Who uses it?
Anyone can use our product. Any concrete pool builder you choose to build your swimming pool is more than qualified to use Blue Glass Pebble Company’s interiors.
You can INSTRUCT your pool builder to use Blue Glass Pebble Company’s stunning glass pebble interior for your pool – it is YOUR pool after all! You can also visit our Find a Contractor page to search for a pool builder in your area already using Blue Glass Pebble Company as their supplier.
Is there a warranty for your product?
You bet! We offer a 10 year warranty for all our pool interiors. (Hot tip – you can extend your warranty by 12 months by registering your installation with us!)
How do I find someone that installs your product?
You can visit our Find a Contractor page to search for a pool builder or pool renovator in your area already using Blue Glass Pebble Company as their supplier.
My pool builder is suggesting another product, but I love yours - what can I do?
If you’re not too deep into the construction process yet, just chat with your builder and ask them to get in touch with us ASAP, so that we can quote them and they can let you know any changes to your costs.
Even though your builder may have suggested another product, that doesn’t mean you have to use that product if you don’t want to! It’s YOUR pool, not theirs!
Will your glass pebble products stand the test of time?
Yes, they certainly will. Our glass pebbles are fully coloured glass pebbles. They’re not painted. That means the colour will always stay in the glass no matter what, giving you the same beautiful sparkling colours for many, many years.

You can certainly expose the surface by high pressure water, just like a normal pebble.
Does the pool need to be started up any differently?
Yes, you’ll need to not add salt for the first four weeks, add 4 litres of Scale & Stain Eliminator and make sure the customer knows their brushing regimen.
We provide a copy of our start up instructions with EVERY order of our premixed and drymixed products. Contact us for a copy.
What if I have bags left over at the end? Am I stuck with them?
Of course not. We fully refund any unused bags that are returned to us in a re-sellable condition – just get in touch!
I’ve been bitten by fancy blue pool interior products before. Is this going to stand the test of time?
Yes it certainly will. Our glass pebbles are fully coloured glass pebbles. They’re not painted. That means the colour will always stay in the glass no matter what. FAQs for New Zealand Pebbles
Here's some answers to commonly asked questions about our New Zealand Pebble product range.
How do I purchase your New Zealand Pebble products?
We sell this range of pebbles as a raw material, to be mixed up into pool finishes by qualified pool builders and pebblecretors.
If you’re a home owner getting a new pool built, you can ask your builder to get in touch with us to get samples and order our products.
Where do your New Zealand Pebbles come from?
Our New Zealand white pebble is sourced from the Deep South of the South Island in the rolling hills of Southland. The raw product comes from ancient riverbed deposits, which are unique to this geographic location. This pebble was forged thousands of years ago by Ice Age glacier movement.
The Government mines all aggregate under strict, stringent control and management, so that the bare minimum of damage is done to the surrounding area.
In its natural state, the pebbles are covered by pure white clay, which is washed away during processing.
How do you ensure the premium quality of your New Zealand pebble?
The pebble is washed in one of the largest washing plants of its kind available – a Finlay 694 Rinser imported from Ireland and is a beast of a machine. It is a three-deck plant and has a 20-foot deck on top. The Finlay washing plant is feed water from a WP250 water pump, which produces 250,000 litres of water an hour onto the aggregate as it passes over the vibrating screens. The water is drawn from a source of four million litre storage ponds.
The product is not only washed once, but three times to ensure the end product before drying is the cleanest it can possibly be – free from contamination. The finished washed New Zealand White product is blazing white. After washing, it is air dried in a clean, concrete bin until ready for further processing.
The next step is to feed the washed pebble into our rotary drying kiln and screening plant for further drying and screening to precise sizes. The pebble is dried at 260° C as it passes through the drying kiln. From there is it bagged in either one-ton bulk bags or 20kg sealed plastic bags.
Quality control is of utmost importance and testing is done at each stage of production to ensure the product is perfect for our customers.
