If you’ve ever installed any pebble pool interior, you’ll know how to install ours!
The installation of pool interiors is in no way considered DIY, or even really a transferrable trade. We strongly recommend that installation of our products should only be undertaken by experienced, swimming pool industry recognised, installation crews. Those from outside the swimming pool industry looking to install our products are recommended to first gain experience working with established pebble-creting crews.
Blue Glass Pebble Product
The Product manufactured and supplied by Blue Glass Pebble Company (BGPC) is a pre-mixed, glass finish product for use in residential and commercial pools.
It is important that You follow this Guide to ensure that the Product is installed and maintained correctly which will provide a durable, professional finish to last the life of the pool.
Failure to follow this Guide may result in voiding the warranty offered by BGPC for the Product.
Storage of the Product
BGPC supplies the Product in pre-mixed and sealed 20kg bags. The mixture is akin to concrete and hardens when exposed to moisture so You must ensure the Product, prior to installation in the pool, remains sealed and shrink-wrapped in a sheltered, undercover area which is not exposed to rain or excess moisture.
The storage shelf-life for the Product, prior to installation in the pool, is a maximum of 6 months from the invoice date. BGPC cannot ensure the same durability or finish will be achieved if the Product is installed after this shelf-life.
Preparation of the Concrete Pool Shell
The Product has been designed for the application to the interior of concrete pool shells only which are compliant with the relevant Australian Standards and National Building Code.
Prior to the application of the Product, You must:
- Cure the concrete pool shell for a minimum of four (4) weeks.
- Ensure the concrete pool shell must be free from all dust, debris, dirt, algae or other contaminants which may affect the adhesion of the Product to the pool shell.
- Ensure the surface of the concrete has been finished with a broom finish or wood float finish to ensure good adhesion of the Product to the shell. The Product will not adequately adhere to a smooth concrete pool shell.
- Wet down the surface of concrete pool shell so that the concrete is damp, but not waterlogged. Excess water ponding on the surface of the shell must be sponged up and removed prior to the installation of the Product.
Application of the Product
The Product must be installed by a sufficiently qualified tradesperson, well versed in cement and aggregate based concrete pool interior finishes.
The installer of the Product should follow these guidelines:
- Approximately three (3) litres of water is required to be mixed per 20kg bag of the Product. Site conditions may require more or less water at the discretion of an experienced tradesperson.
- As a general rule, the mixed Product should just be shy of being able to form a ball in the hand. That is, the mixed Product should have a slightly higher moisture content than being able to form a ball.
- The coverage of the Product on the prepared pool shell interior is approximately 1m2 per 20kg bag of the Product.
- Minimum thickness and coverage rates of the Product are based on a nominal 8mm to 10mm trowelled thickness.
- The Product’s surface finish once applied to the surface of the concrete pool should be smooth and a uniform thickness.
- The Product should be installed within approximately 120 minutes of mixing with water. This setting time can vary depending on the weather and site conditions.
- The coloured glass pebble within the Product is designed to be exposed by the experienced tradesperson using a high pressure hose. Exposure time is to be at the discretion of the experienced tradesperson, taking into account the weather and site conditions.
- The pool must be filled with water within 24 hours of the installation of the Product to allow for the Product to cure and minimise the possibility of cracking. The installed Product must be fully submerged, or within 100mm of water. Pool is to be full of water at all times. Do not empty pool. If pool is emptied and product left exposed then warranty is void.
- While the pool is being filled, the following chemicals (or equivalent) may be added to the pool water in accordance with their manufacturer’s guidelines to achieve the required water balance:
- Scale & Stain Eliminator (purchase now);
- Start-Up Tec;
- Beautec;
- Calstop;
- Salt must not be added into the pool for the first four (4) weeks. During these weeks, the pool must be chlorinated using liquid chlorine.
- The pool interior surface must be brushed down at least once a day for the first three (3) weeks.
- You must ensure the pool and pool water is maintained in accordance with the Guide.
